What started as a simple bike rental in the French Pyrenees has grown into a trusted partnership—and a boutique cycling tour company that’s redefining what it means to explore the world on two wheels.
This is the story of how Greg and Chantelle Scroggs met Philippe Sauvage, and how their connection sparked the idea for a cycling travel experience unlike any other.
A Chance Meeting in the Pyrenees
In 2011, Greg and Chantelle took their first cycling holiday in the Pyrenees. A lifelong dream to ride the iconic Cols of the Tour de France was finally coming true. Like many travelers, they wanted to rent high-quality bikes to make the most of the experience and avoid the hassle of traveling with gear.
Friends recommended a top-rated bike rental service in southern France—owned by none other than Philippe Sauvage. After just a few emails, the connection was clear. Philippe recognized their genuine excitement and passion for cycling and made sure everything was perfect.
A Gesture That Meant Everything
When the bikes were delivered, Greg and his friend were amazed. Brand-new Cannondale Carbon Synapse bikes arrived—still with tags on. Philippe later explained, “You were so excited and passionate about your first trip to France that I wanted to make it just a little more perfect. So, we sent brand-new bikes—because we could.”
It was the kind of gesture that made a lasting impression. Greg and Philippe met in person at the end of the trip, and a friendship began. Over the years, Greg and Chantelle continued to rent from Philippe and stay in touch. Each time they returned to France, the bond grew stronger.

Greg and Chantelle are no strangers to creating unforgettable moments. Their careers span decades in hospitality, events, and entertainment. From launching top restaurants and venues to producing international music festivals and hosting celebrities, they’ve always been driven by a passion for delivering exceptional service.
Most recently, they brought their expertise to the mountains of British Columbia—offering luxury experiences to heli-ski guests in Golden and managing elite accommodations in Whistler. But the time came to follow their true passion: cycling.
They envisioned a company that went beyond traditional tours—one that could craft life-changing cycling adventures tailored to each guest.

After many conversations and aligned visions, the partnership between Greg, Chantelle, and Philippe became official. Together, they formed a new kind of cycling tour company—The Good Escape Cycling Tours.
With Philippe’s 14+ years of experience organizing tours across France, Italy, Spain, and Ireland, and Greg and Chantelle’s background in hospitality and experience design, the match was perfect.
Philippe also runs a boutique bike shop and café, La Bonne Échappée in Gaillac, which adds a welcoming local touch to the entire experience.
